How much is gold worth to people we might meet on the street? That is my take-away from this first video. There is quite a bit of showmanship in the approach, but maybe it offers a lesson or two about the gold market. Obviously, no one is going to go about liquidating their gold coins for cash by approaching people on the street.
And unless you have a relative, friend or acquaintance who is interested in picking up some gold from you, or if you want to sell your gold on the eBay auctions (which I think is a very good way to sell or buy gold), getting cash for your gold is going to entail working with a dealer who is quite knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the gold market.
In this next video, a gold dealer presents his spin on the buying and selling of gold coins. His point of view seems to be that the safest way to deal in gold is with a dealer such as himself. While getting your hands on some gold, or selling off your gold is not supermarket-simple, I think that he encourages us to feel like it’s a complicated scarey process. I know that there are some old, maybe even antiquated governmental rules for controlling the gold market, but I’ve dealt with local coin dealers and eBay sellers and it’s been pretty straight forward.
He also encourages investing in numismatic over plain bullion coins. Of course, coin dealers need to earn a living like the rest of us, so the premiums on numismatic coins do allow for a better profit. It should go without saying that the market in numismatic precious metals coins is very active. But like the markets for antiques and other collectibles, the more you know and the harder you work at it, the happier you’ll be.
